Skyrocketing with the rocketeer

The green-eyed beauty then had a streak, with 1997’s Inventing the Abbotts, as Liv Tyler’s sister, and less commercial films like Dark City, Waking the Dead, the critically-acclaimed Requiem for a Dream, in a convincing turn as a heroine addict, and Pollock.

Jennifer Connelly tried her hand at television, with a starring role in the poorly rated The $treet, and although it was canceled, Jennifer became a star with her supporting role in A Beautiful Mind, opposite Russell Crowe. She is also busy raising her son, Kai (the fruit of her relationship with photographer Dave Dougan), as a single mother.

Her acting talents were finally recognized as she was nominated for a Best Supporting Female Independent Spirit Award for her role in Requiem for a Dream. Jennifer finally received her much-deserved recognition with Best Supporting Actress trophies at the 2002 Golden Globe and Oscar award shows.

Jennifer will next appear in the Ang Lee directed film adaptation, The Hulk.

Why Jennifer?

August 29, 2008 by jenniferconnelly

In 1997 this website was created as a mark of respect and admiration for this remarkably talented actress. At that stage in her career Jennifer was still very much under-appreciated as a serious actress. She had been acting since her early teens but in the mid 1990s her career was undergoing a quiet phase. Her relatively small and very loyal fan base stemmed from her early performances in films such as “Labyrinth”, “Career Opportunities” and “The Rocketeer”. A significant amount of Jennifer’s popularity was unfortunately prompted purely by her physical beauty, and many web sites at the time were primarily aimed at catering for this.

The focus of this site is on providing a comprehensive archive of Jennifer’s career, particularly her earlier career in the 1980s and 90s. It is not intended as a repository of any and all photos, latest news and gossip. There are plenty of sites that cater for that and we remain committed to providing a site that emphasizes quality over quantity. We are not here to update the site every 24 hours or bury you in a mountain of Coppermine albums.

Early life

June 30, 2008 by jenniferconnelly

Connelly was born in the Catskill Mountains, New York, the daughter of Eileen, an antiques dealer, and Gerard Connelly, a clothing manufacturer who worked in the garment industry. Connelly’s paternal grandparents were of Irish and Norwegian descent, respectively, while her maternal grandparents were Jewish, their families having come from Russia and Poland.[2] Connelly was raised in Brooklyn Heights, near the Brooklyn Bridge, and attended St. Ann’s School, except for four years the family spent living in Woodstock, New York. One of her father’s friends was an advertising executive, who suggested that she audition at a modeling agency.

At the age of ten, her career started in newspaper and magazine ads, then moved to television commercials. These led to movie auditions and her first film role was as “young Deborah Gelly”, a supporting role in Sergio Leone’s 1984 gangster epic, Once Upon a Time in America, filmed mostly in 1982 when she was eleven. She next starred in Italian horror-director Dario Argento’s Phenomena (1985) and in the coming-of-age movie Seven Minutes in Heaven.
